Overview
Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation of the United Nations where students step into the shoes of diplomats to debate global issues, draft resolutions, and collaborate on innovative solutions to pressing international problems. It’s an opportunity to engage with world affairs, practice diplomacy, and develop skills in public speaking, research, and negotiation.
Types of Committees
MUN committees are designed to simulate different aspects of international diplomacy. Each type of committee offers unique challenges and opportunities, ensuring a diverse and enriching experience for all participants. At conferences, you may participate in:
- General Assembly Committees: These large forums focus on broad global issues such as climate change, human rights, and international security.
- Example: United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) tackling biodiversity loss.
- Crisis Committees: Fast-paced and dynamic, crisis committees require delegates to respond to unfolding events in real-time.
- Example: A historical simulation of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
- Specialized Committees: There are committees that don’t fit the common General Assembly or Crisis categories. These smaller, more focused groups dive deep into specific topics or institutions.
- Example: The International Court of Justice debating a border dispute.
