Compensation Updates

HR has been partnering with the staff compensation committee and other stakeholders at CC to enhance your compensation. We are continuing to work to ensure that CC employees receive similar compensation to others who do similar work at similar organizations.

2023-2024 compensation accomplishments

In 2023-2024, Colorado College invested more than $2 million in increasing staff salaries:

  • All Colorado College benefits eligible staff now earn the MIT Glasmeier living wage for a single adult in Colorado Springs ($17.48/hour).
  • Staff and Faculty received annual increases.
  • Staff below the band midpoint received accelerated increases.
  • Employees regularly scheduled to work evening and night shifts now receive shift differentials.
  • Occasional and temp workers received increases, with minimum pay set at $15.50/hour.

2023-2024 compensation structure review

HR has been working with an external compensation consultant (Segal) to review CC’s compensation and band structure.  The consultant noted that, in general, positions are well matched to the market rate and bands. They agreed with our concerns that:

  • Starting salaries should be higher to help attract candidates.
  • Moving newer staff to the midpoint more quickly will help with retention.

The consultant recommended narrowing the bands to accomplish those two objectives.  They also recommended adding more bands, so jobs are more closely matched to the market.

Next steps

In the coming months, HR will work with various stakeholders to:

  • Review the proposed band structure to ensure it is aligned with our goals of ensuring a livable wage while providing competitive and equitable pay.
  • Match positions to the new band structure.
  • Review the market data for positions with division leaders to verify band matches.
  • Review across the organization for internal equity across divisions.
  • Funds required to move all staff to minimum of their new bands will be shared with the Compensation Committee, for inclusion in their work towards a recommendation to the Campus Budget Committee later in the Fall
