CC maintains a carefully vetted list of programs around the world that we partner with for the education abroad of our students, and many opportunities exist every year for CC faculty to work more closely with our global partner programs--for site visits, conferences, and sabbatical teaching opportunities.

Limited funding may be available from the Christian Johnson Endeavor Fund (CJE) to support your participation; contact Dr. Allen Bertsche, Director of Global Education, for more information about these funds, or Heather Powell Browne, Assistant Director of Global Education, to learn more about our partner programs and these opportunities.

Faculty Site Visits & Familiarization Trips

Our Colorado College partner programs and universities around the world occasionally offer faculty opportunities to visit their programs and become familiar with the offerings, in order to enhance student advising and supports available back on the CC campus, and also to strengthen the curricular and departmental bonds and understanding between these partner programs and CC academics.

FACULTY SITE VISIT FUNDING

Generally, candidates for financial support for international site visits and partner program familiarization trips will be identified by Global Education, in accordance with departmental goals and potential impact to the College’s internationalization efforts. Factors that will be considered in fund disbursal include:

• Willingness of faculty member to be an ongoing liaison for the study abroad opportunity within their department or program, and to offer feedback to the study abroad program on curricular connections or suggested alignments within the CC curriculum
• Openness to serving as an ongoing campus resource / faculty advisor for future students who are interested in the program
• The level of interest from CC students in the specific program or opportunity

As this fund is limited, it is appreciated when faculty participating in site visits can investigate other funding opportunities as well, from their department or division where appropriate. Program providers abroad may also have grants/funding support on an as-needed basis.

• ISDSI Thailand offers a 5-day site visit annually to their Culture, Ecology, and Community semester program.
• DIS holds an annual International Educators Workshop in Copenhagen and Stockholm.
• Sea Education Association (SEA) Semester offers annual familiarization voyages on-ship/at sea.
• SIT regularly offers faculty development on-site workshops and thematic seminars at their centers around the world. See current upcoming faculty seminar offerings, and upcoming group site visits to SIT program centers.

 

Ongoing faculty teaching opportunities abroad

Join the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) as a guest instructor in the Open Campus program at one of their Global Institutes in Berlin, Cape Town, London, Madrid, Paris, Rome, Copenhagen, Santiago, Rio de Janeiro, or Buenos Aires. The Open Campus modules are roughly similar to the Block Plan.

Become a Visiting Faculty Member with DIS (Copenhagen):
Faculty are invited to apply to teach an upper division 3-credit course for one semester at DIS in Copenhagen. This international collaboration benefits our own faculty, who enjoy knowledge sharing, and is intended to deepen our institutional partnership.

IES offers:

• Teaching Grants for Consortium faculty on sabbatical to teach a course at select IES Abroad Centers for a semester at the IES Centers in Barcelona, Berlin, Cape Town, European Union program (Freiburg, Germany), Freiburg, Granada, London, Madrid, Milan, Paris, Rome, or Vienna

• Research Grants for faculty members from IES Abroad member schools to visit an IES Abroad Center for up to a month to engage in their own research that relates to the Center's curriculum, give lectures, and collaborate with IES Abroad faculty while gaining in-depth knowledge of the Center
• Faculty Development Seminars: these take place on-site at IES Centers around the world. They offer local and U.S. faculty the opportunity to meet and discuss topics of common interest, including pedagogical issues, which impact program development. 
  
  

ACM Resident Director of Japan Study - Full academic year at Waseda University in Tokyo
The Japan Study Resident Director spends an academic year at Waseda University in Tokyo with 30-40 students. This position is open to Japan specialists and non-specialists, and Resident Directors in past years have included tenured and tenure-track faculty from all ranks. The application deadline is April 30 for the academic year beginning 16 months later. Information and application.

The Budapest Semester in Mathematics offers a Director's Mathematician in Residence Program (DMiR), conducted under the direction of the BSM North American office. This program is open to individual faculty members, as well as to research teams of two or more scholars applying jointly. Spend three weeks during the spring, summer, or fall as the BSM Director's Mathematician in Residence in beautiful Budapest, and enjoy a unique opportunity for professional development, networking, and collaboration with renowned Hungarian mathematicians. Gain valuable international experience, as well as a firsthand look at the BSM program and all it offers to participating undergraduate students. The program funds travel to Hungary and housing in Budapest. Office space, internet access, and a math library are also available. In addition to providing in-country support, local BSM staff will coordinate a social program including an orientation, city tour, and welcome banquet. Faculty members accepted to the program (DMiR scholars) will be expected to be available to BSM students two to three hours per week and to give a short lecture series, targeted to BSM students, on their research area.

 

College Year in Athens (CYA, which offers semester, year, and summer programs) has a long tradition of inviting exceptional senior scholars from the U.S. and Europe to teach in Athens as visiting faculty for a semester or a year. Professors who are authorities in their fields have taught at CYA through the years, contributing to the enrichment of our academic offerings and the advancement of our academic community’s intellectual endeavors.
