Molly Moran joined the department as a visiting faculty member, but in her second year, she landed a tenure track position. As an undergraduate, she worked closely with Fred Tinsley and when she went to graduate school she picked Craig Guilbault, Fred's long-time collaborator, as her advisor. She brought an expertise in topology (specifically geometric group theory) to the department just before Tinsley, the department topologist during his career, decided to retire.
