Sexual Violence Prevention

Prevention at Colorado College

Colorado College takes a comprehensive approach to preventing sexual and gender-based violence. Sexual violence exists on a continuum—from harassment and unwanted touching to coercion and rape—and prevention starts with building a campus culture where all forms of violence are unacceptable.

CC’s prevention strategy follows the socio-ecological model, addressing factors at the individual, relationship, community, and societal levels. Coordinated initiatives across these areas create lasting, campus-wide impact.

Our approach integrates primary prevention (stopping violence before it occurs) with secondary and tertiary prevention (supporting survivors and promoting long-term healing).

This work involves everyone. Together, we can create a culture of respect, consent, and healthy relationships.

Campus-Wide Prevention Programs Include:

  • Bringing In the Bystander (specific to sexual assault interventions)
  • Trauma-Informed Responses to Sexual Violence Disclosures
  • Consent and Healthy Relationship Awareness
  • Social Norming Campaigns
  • Sexual Assault Awareness Month (April) campaigns and events
  • Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October) campaigns and events
  • Passive Education (bulletin boards, social media, posters)
  • New Student Orientation Workshops on CC’s community approach to addressing sexual harm on campus.
