The Stroud Scholars Program

As of August 2025, Colorado College has made the difficult decision to sunset the Stroud Scholars Program after current cohorts complete the program in 2028. We will fulfill all commitments already made to students accepted into the program and continue to support them through graduation, but will no longer admit new cohorts. We are proud of all that Stroud Scholars has accomplished, and grateful for your interest, participation, commitment, and partnership.  Moving forward, we turn our focus toward programming that enables and prepares students to thrive specifically at CC.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, the College remains committed to becoming a More Just CC as evidenced through the establishment of the Institutional Equity and Belonging office as well as the shift of support to the Enrollment office to support college preparatory programming to allow students to not only thrive in college, but thrive at CC. Details about our antiracism commitment can be found in the College’s Strategy for a More Just CC: https://www.coloradocollege.edu/offices/adei/strategic-plan.html
No. While we’re aware of recent government edicts, this decision was made prior to the most recent release and was based on an assessment of our program and College needs.
The College’s finances are a solid position. However, as with all healthy organizations, programming across the College is regularly evaluated to see how it aligns with the College’s current mission and strategic direction as well as to measure outcomes and benefits for the College so resources can be put toward the strategic support for CC students.
Over the past five years, the Stroud Scholars Program has opened doors for students in the Pikes Peak Region, with over 90% of participants going on to college. While we are proud of what Stroud has accomplished, it has not been as successful at its intended recruitment outcomes for Colorado College. Out of 62 Stroudies who have completed the program in the past three cohorts, only 10 (16%) of Stroud Scholars have chosen to enroll at Colorado College and two left after matriculation.
While strategic planning is underway, we will continue to offer our Pre-College program and support our current Stroud Scholars as they finish out the program. The Pre-College program will re-launch in Summer 2026, with financial aid available. We will also explore the development of additional programs in the future and look forward to sharing updates as new opportunities become available.
This decision allows for more strategic alignment with CC enrollment efforts and stewardship of resources going to College access programs.

First Stroud Cohort Matriculates!

Nineteen high school seniors from various schools around the Pikes Peak region are the first group to complete the Stroud Scholars college preparatory program at Colorado College, named after two of the first Black students to graduate from the institution in 1931. The scholars were honored at a college signing day event May 1 at Bemis Great Hall.
