How To Declare Your Major

Wiki Grzech, Paraprofessional, is holding office hours for major declarations from 2pm to 3pm Monday through Thursday in Palmer Hall 119

Before the meeting, please get acquainted with the requirements for the major you are declaring and prefill the Major Declaration form as much as possible (do not click submit before meeting with the paraprof or the admin. assistant). During the meeting, the department's staff will go over the form with you and assign you an advisor.

We look forward to welcoming you into the department!

New Major: Business, Economics, and Society (BESoc)

The Economics and Business Department serves the needs of students, supports their efforts to live lives that carry significance beyond themselves, and upholds societal values of respect and equality. To that end, we have created the new BESoc Major.

Primary Goals of the Major
  • Study human economic behavior: its nature, its sources, and its consequences;
  • Stress the rigorous use of quantitative and qualitative data and methods to test theories and to understand material life.

We see the combination of Business and Economics as contributing to the college's commitment to the liberal arts. Pairing the two disciplines promotes liberal learning in three ways:

  • Prepares students to act as effective citizens by promoting knowledge of the economic structures and processes central to democratic society in a global age;
  • Fosters interdisciplinary thinking by introducing different approaches to the understanding of economic phenomena;
  • Reinforces analytical, critical, and creative thinking by addressing complex questions about economic and human behaviors and their outcomes and by resisting easy answers.
