David Ying Fun Facts
Q: Where do you get your musical inspiration?
A: Many places! First from the music itself- it is a privilege to spend time studying and enjoying such fantastic and deeply personal music. But I also am inspired by my colleagues and students. I find everyone's pursuit of creativity and self-expression special.
Q: What made you first realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?
A: During my senior year of high school my parents told me I should do something I enjoyed, since hopefully I would do it for a long time. And I am still enjoying it, more than ever.
Q: What are some current projects you are working on?
A: I am currently trying to revive Tchaikovsky's Pezzo Capriccioso. I haven't played it for a LONG time, and the middle section seems faster than I remember it. I think age might have something to do with that.
Q: What drew you to the Colorado College Summer Music Festival?
A: The level of the faculty was, and is, extremely exciting. But once I had my first summer at CC the energy and curiosity of the fellows was just as exciting.
Q: What are you most excited for this upcoming festival season?
A: Sue Grace always manages to unearth fascinating music that I have never heard before, and she and the faculty always bring it to life in compelling ways- I am sure that I will learn as much this summer as every summer before.
