Dr. Heidi R. Lewis (Director and Associate Professor of Feminist & Gender Studies) was recently published in Unteilbar: Bündnisse gegen Rassismus (UNRAST-Verlag, 2019) at the invitation of Editor Jule Bönkost.

Unteilbar examines intersectional and transnational perspectives on racism as a structural system of domination and oppression, focusing on approaches and dimensions of allyship, examples of practical implementation, and the possibilities of resistance.

In "Hidden Spaces, Hidden Narratives-Intersectionality Studies in Berlin: A Case Study in Critical Feminist Alliance Work," Dr. Lewis examines the development of her study abroad course, "Hidden Spaces, Hidden Narratives: Intersectionality Studies in Berlin," which she has taught annually since 2014. Through myriad multidisciplinary critical perspectives-such as Black Feminism, Transnational Feminism, and Critical Race Theory-this course examines how the identities of Black, Jewish, Turkish, and LGBTQI communities, as well as (im)migrants, refugees, victims of Neo-Nazi terrorism and police brutality, and other marginalized people are constructed in Germany-particularly how these constructions are dependent on racism, heterosexism, colonialism, and other forms of oppression. Additionally, it examines how these people and communities resist and reproduce these narratives as they construct their subjectivities.
