The Feminist & Gender Studies Department is excited to announce that Nan Lanier (Psychology Major and FGS Minor ’20) has graduated with dual master’s degrees in Social Work and Couple & Family Therapy from the University of Louisville as of May 2026! Nan has also accepted a position as an associate therapist at Best Life Mental Health Services, a group practice in her hometown of Louisville, KY.
Best Life believes that “There are no perfect people, and we embrace our flaws and diversity – and use all of our practice wisdom, life experience, and clinical research to aid our clients in truly discovering their best selves.” As an associate therapist at Best Life, Nan will work primarily with individuals leaving the carceral system on parole, focusing on reintegration support and healing racial trauma from policing and institutionalization.
Having returned to her hometown to work in her communities of origin, Nan says, “I am excited and daunted to continue working system-impacted and clients of color at Best Life, many of whose lived experiences differ from my own. I also hope to continue working with queer youth and their families, as well as with divorcing families trying to mitigate the impact of the legal system. I am grateful to the FGS department for my politics, and for bell hooks.”
Congratulations, Nan! We are so proud of all you have accomplished!
