Staff & Faculty Resources
The Arts and Crafts program is a resource for staff and faculty as well as students. We are excited to share a few ways that you can engage with making in the studio.
If you would like to stay up to date about programs in Arts and Crafts please sign up for our newsletter.
We are thrilled to continue to offer the staff and faculty wellness programs this year! Please join us for a lunch and craft session this year 2nd Wednesdays and 4th Fridays from noon-2PM It’s a great way to meet colleagues from across campus and spend time creating together. Getting away from your work for a few hours, learning and creating something new, and being in community with others is a great way to support well-being. No experience is needed for any of the workshops, they are all guided and open to all levels.
Sign-ups for sessions are required since we will provide lunch. You can sign up for each session on Student Life Summit.
The Arts and Crafts program embraces experimentation, failure, joy, friendships, and creates space to make connections to learning and everyday life. We understand and support the process of creation as an element of wellness. The studio is located on the lower level of Worner. This program is sponsored by the Annual Fund for Mental Health and Wellness.
Block Dates and Focuses:
Wednesday, February 5th: Ceramic Mug making workshop
(Please note this workshop is held on the 3rd week instead of week 2 as I’ll be away from the studio during week 2)
In this workshop you will create your own mug using hand building processes. We will create the mug and then use underglazes to add color and surface designs. The final mugs will be completed and ready to be picked up at the end on the month.
Friday, February 14th: Glass Mosaics with Visiting Artist Devin Balara
In this workshop you will connect with visiting stained-glass artist Devin Balara to create small scale glass mosaics. Devin will give a brief history of her work and share how mosaics are a resourceful way of using left over glass from the stained-glass process. Using small pieces of glass, you will lay out your design and then use glue to set it in place. We will then grout the pieces, and you can pick them up the following week.
Block 6:
Wednesday, February 26th: Indigo workshop with Visiting Gasali Adeyemo
In this workshop you will have the opportunity to work with Visiting Artist Gasali Adeyemo to learn the history and techniques of indigo dyeing. You will be able to bring and dye one of your own pieces or dye something that we have available in the studio.
Friday, March 14th: Playing with light and photo processes
In this workshop we will explore all things light! We will create temporary sculptures and project light through them and capture them through photography. After this playful activity we will then use what we learned about lights and shadows to create Cyanotypes. Cyanotypes is a photo process that uses UV light to process shadows and capture images.
Block 7:
Wednesday, April 2nd: Workshop with Fiber Fellow Malavika Rao
This workshop will be designed by our Spring Fiber Fellow Malavika Rao. More details will be shared soon!
Friday, April 18th: Weaving with Visiting Artist and CC Alumni Frances Heiss
In this workshop you will learn how to set up and weave using an embroidery hoop as a loom. We will explore different weaving techniques and experiment with different yarns and fibers. At the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a beautiful, finished piece to display in your home or office! Weaving is a wonderful way to unwind, tap into your creativity, and enjoy a meditative experience.
Block 8:
Wednesday, April 30th: Candle making with Visiting Artist Kristina Henderson, Cultivating Luminescence
Join in on a session that will awaken your senses. Local artist Kristina Henderson will guide you through a candle-making workshop where you will select scents to create your own candle. Please note that space is limited for this workshop.
Friday, May 16th: Collective Flower Arrangements for Graduation
Each year Arts and Crafts works with the Chaplin to decorate Shove Chapel for Baccalaureate. This workshop will be dedicated to creating beautiful displays for those students graduating.

Is your department interested in hosting an event, team-building workshop, or would like to schedule a time for your class to work in the Arts and Crafts studio? We would love to collaborate and here are some ways we've worked with groups in the past:
- Team-building activities: We've provided guided art making experiences and departments can reserve times to work in the studios.
- Discussion groups: Creative making can help to support all kinds of conversations, brainstorming, and team meetings.
- Curriculum Support: We've worked with classes to design specific art activities that support class curriculum.
- Art Cart: We have an art making cart with basic supplies that you can check out for your event or class if you can't work in the studio. There is a small charge for this so that we can keep the cart supplied.
If you are interested in working with us please reach out to Rebecca Parker.
