Feminist & Gender Studies is proud to announce that Dr. Heidi R. Lewis, Director and Associate Professor, has been elected Secretary of the National Women's Studies Association (NWSA).
NWSA was established in 1977 with the primary objective of "promoting and supporting the production and dissemination of knowledge about women and gender through teaching, learning, research and service in academic and other settings."
The Association has more than 3,000 individual and 350 institutional members around the world, all of whom share the Association's commitment to "illuminate the ways in which women’s studies are vital to education; to demonstrate the contributions of feminist scholarship that is comparative, global, intersectional and interdisciplinary to understandings of the arts, humanities, social sciences and sciences; and to promote synergistic relationships between scholarship, teaching and civic engagement in understandings of culture and society."
NWSA holds an annual conference featuring a variety of keynote speakers and topics. The 2019 40th National Conference was the largest conference to date and focused on "Protest, Justice, and Transnational Organizing." The 2021 Conference takes place September 17-18, October 14-16, and November 18-20, 2021. The 2021 Conference will be completely virtual and will explore "Feminist Community Formations Across Borders and Experience."
Congratulations, Dr. Lewis! We are positive your contributions to this organization will be as significant and abundant as your contributions to our Feminist and Gender Studies Program. We are proud to know you and grateful for everything you have accomplished!
