Colorado College is offering a variety of courses during Half Block, which runs Jan. 11-21, 2022. Half Block is a shortened academic session in January between Winter Break and the start of Block 5 in which students can take credit and non-credit classes focused on career and skill development. It is different than January block, a full block that runs Jan. 3-21, 2022.
The non-credit offerings in Half Block provide an opportunity for students to explore interests and gain professional knowledge and skills. Many of these offerings are aimed at increasing competencies and helping students become more competitive for internships, graduate/professional schools, and fulltime jobs.
Among the offerings are GRE, LSAT, and MCAT prep, as well as courses focusing on the business world (Wall Street Prep, Business and Customer Insights with Data, Analytics, & Metrics), journalism (Digital Storytelling and Sports Journalism), health (Intro to Machine Learning in Biotech and Healthcare) and advertising and marketing (Developing Strategy in Circular Apparel, Advertising: A Peek Behind the Curtain). Non-credit courses range from two to nine days and many are designed with complementary schedules, allowing students to take more than one course.
For-credit academic offerings give students the opportunity to explore courses outside of their major and requirements, or to delve deeper into a subject in which they’re interested. Students can earn 0.5 units of credit towards the 32 required for graduation. Tuition for Half Block is included in the Spring Semester tuition.
The nearly two dozen half-block courses offered for credit cover a range of subjects and disciplines. Among them are Snow Science, Brazilian Music and Language, Introduction to Geographic Information Systems, Hip Hop & Feminism, The Renaissance Banchetto, and Investigations in Engineering.
