The Feminist and Gender Studies Department is proud to share that Associate Professor Rushaan Kumar recently co-edited Rivers of Thirst: Stories of Partitions, Borders and Exile. Published by Speaking Tiger Books, India, and co-edited by the acclaimed Indian poet and writer Sukrita Paul Kumar, Rivers of Thirst presents powerful short stories by the Urdu fiction writer Joginder Paul, whose writing was profoundly shaped by his experiences during the 1947 Partition of India. This collection, translated for the first time from Urdu to English, delves into themes of displacement, identity, and belonging, revealing how trauma echoes across generations. These stories explore the struggles of its characters, who refuse to relinquish their memories of undivided Punjab. The collection contains an Introduction by Pakistani literary critic Asif Farrukhi, an Afterword by Pakistani writer Zahida Hina, and a newly translated chapter of Joginder Paul’s acclaimed novel Sleepwalkers.
Congratulations, Dr. Kumar! We are so proud to know you!
