Feminist and Gender Studies is proud to share that Ivy Wappler ’18 will be starting an MA program in Geography and Environment at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa this fall. The Department of Geography and Environment at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa “offers world-class geographic knowledge and expertise at local, national, and international scales, focusing on Asia and the Pacific.” Students in the department “research topics such as agriculture and food, climate change, environmental conservation, geopolitics, geospatial sciences and big data analytics, and tourism leading to careers in academia, government service, NGOs, and in the private sector in Hawaiʻi.” After working within Hawaii’s food system for a few years, Ivy is looking forward to researching the barriers that local farmers face in adopting more sustainable management practices. In doing so, she hopes that her research will contribute to a larger, cross-disciplinary effort among researchers and industry professionals to advance Climate Smart Agriculture in Hawaii.
Congratulations, Ivy! We are so proud to know you!
