Lauren Watel

At CC Lauren was very involved with the Center for Service and Learning. She served as a Priddy Trip NSO leader for 3 years, participated and led two Alternative Spring Break trips to Mexico with Habitat for Humanity, and was a leader in CCLIM- CC Learning Initiative in the Mountains. She studied abroad in Costa Rica focused on Tropical Rainforest Ecology. After graduating she moved to Bainbridge Island, WA to study Environmental Education at IslandWood and begin work on her Masters degree. In 2009 Lauren returned to Denver and began teaching Biology and Environmental Science at St. Mary's Academy High School, she taught until 2015. In 2014 Lauren was selected as a PolarTREC teacher and partnered with a professor from OSU and traveled and assisted him with his research examining freshwater microbes at Toolik Field Station in Arctic Alaska. Lauren began serving as a Trustee on the Schlessman Family Foundation 2014, she began serving as Vice-President in 2018. Lauren lives in Denver with Ethan '07, and their two children Bennett and Leigh.
