Brian is president and founder of The Ethan James Foundation, promoting research and education in the field of medical decision-making. He is also founder and sponsor of the Compassionate Care for Children Program at University of Virginia Health Sciences. He is a board member, The Cultural Landscape Foundation, former chair, Palliative Care Center Advisory Board, University of Virginia Medical Center, former board member, The Children's Hospital Foundation, Denver, board member, Colorado Public Radio. He was co-founder and chief executive officer of TRIP.com, 1996- 2000, an internet-based travel reservation and information service. He is a former partner at Social Venture Partners and an adjunct professor at Colorado College.
