An introduction to the interdisciplinary field of arts and health, students will engage in daily movement explorations and discussions as well as participate in on-site creative workshops with health professionals. The principles of this arts & health practice will be further explored as they relate to other disciplines such as education, economics, psychology and the health sciences. As a final project, students will create a personal response to their investigations and experiences in an arts discipline of their choosing (dance/movement, theatre, music, voice, visual art, writing.) This in-depth experience will also include a final critical reflection synthesizing their research, theoretical studies and creative work.

At the intersection of history, embodiment, and Indigenous cosmologies, this course explores performance, art, and cultural expression in the U.S.-Mexico borderlands. It examines how embodied histories shape contemporary Indigenous identities and futurities, focusing on historical interventions such as colonization, migration, and cultural survival. Through movement workshops, archival research, and site-based learning, students will investigate how art and performance serve as tools for resistance and renewal while critically reflecting on the processes and claims of historical inquiry. This course introduces students to the construction of historical arguments, the evaluation of evidence, and the value of historical inquiry in understanding the diversity of experiences and modes of meaning-making across time and place.
